Background
In the heart of Spain's Ribera del Duero region, family-run Bodegas Félix Callejo has been making waves since 1989. Founded by Félix Callejo, a man steeped in the tradition of winemaking, the winery is dedicated to showcasing the unique character of the local land. Combining generations-old techniques with a focus on innovation, Félix aimed to put Ribera del Duero on the world map. Today, under the leadership of his children Noelia and José Félix, the winery continues to experiment and craft exceptional wines that are a true expression of the land.
Production Process
To create their wines, Bodegas Félix Callejo meticulously hand-picks grapes from different plots within their high-altitude (around 930 meters) family vineyards. The grapes grow in limestone-rich soil, a key factor in the wine's character. Fermentation starts with natural yeast to capture the essence of the place, and then continues in French oak barrels where the wine undergoes malolactic fermentation. For depth and complexity, the wine ages in these same barrels for 18 months before bottling.
