Tasting Notes
A deep cherry hue with garnet edges graces Juan Gil Azul Jumilla. On the nose, it reveals a captivating aroma of dark fruit, mingling with hints of roasted coffee and balsamic notes. The palate is complex and well-structured, offering ripe plum flavors accented by touches of cocoa and spice. Balanced and harmonious, it finishes long and elegant, with smooth tannins hinting at its aging potential.
Background
In the 1990s, in a surprising move an aeronautical engineer left his successful career in Seville to return to his hometown, Jumilla. He joined forces with his brother Ángel to revive their family's winemaking tradition. In 2002, they relaunched Hijos de Juan Gil, focusing on buying high-quality grapes from up-and-coming regions. Their aim was to produce excellent wines at competitive prices for both Spanish and international markets. This led to the creation of Familia Gil Vineyards, which now operates in 10 appellations of origin and produces well-regarded wines like Juan Gil and El Nido.
Production Process
This Jumilla red uses organic grapes from mature vines at high altitude. The blend of mourvèdre, cabernet sauvignon, and syrah spends 18 months in French oak, resulting in a complex flavor profile.
