Tasting Notes
Icon Edition Reserva Especial pours a deep ruby red, almost like garnet around the edges. On the nose, it offers notes of jammy plums, a mix of forest fruits, and hints of blueberry. Thanks to its time in barrels, there's also a hint of spice and balsamic vinegar. On the palate, it's dry and grippy, yet full of flavor. Expect a long finish with whispers of rum and blackberry.
Background
For over a century and a half, the Faustino Group has been a leading light in Rioja's wine scene. Founded in 1861, they cultivate exquisite grapes across their vast 2,000-hectare expanse. Their Bodegas Faustino winery, established in Oyón, Rioja Alavesa, has been captivating the world with its premium wines for over 160 years. Especially known for their Gran Reservas, Faustino ships its bottles to over 140 countries. Their star, Faustino I, reigns supreme as the world's top-selling DOCa Rioja Gran Reserva, a champion that holds nearly 40% of its category's sales.
Production Process
The Icon Edition Reserva Especial is a bold blend. Crafted from Graciano and Tempranillo grapes that ripen under La Rioja's warmth, this cuvée bursts with character. Hand-harvested at the perfect moment, the grapes ferment in large wooden bins before gracing French oak barrels for several months. This is followed by additional bottle aging, resulting in a complex and captivating old-world wine that embodies the essence of Rioja DOCa.
