Tasting Notes
This wine has a pure and bright cherry color with orange reflections. The aroma bursts with ripe black fruit, complemented by intriguing hints of leather, roasted notes, pipe tobacco, and warm spices. The taste of the wine echoes these aromas, offering bold shades of blackberry, plum, and black currant, complemented by black pepper and balsamic notes. It finishes with a long and complex aftertaste. For full enjoyment, it is recommended to decant the wine 30 minutes before serving.
Background
In 1995, the Sapatero Pinto family began their winemaking journey in Ribera del Duero, Spain. Their first winery was located beneath a historic 15th-century building. They started with just 50,000 bottles annually and now produce 250,000 bottles annually.
They built the La Vid wine complex on a beautiful colonial estate dating back to the 1890s. The complex combines modern elements with historical materials and includes a gourmet shop, hotel, and the winery itself. Visitors can explore everything from warehouses and offices to a cozy tasting room.
The grapes for their wines come from 40 hectares of vineyards, primarily in La Vid and San Juan del Monte. Their signature grape variety is Tempranillo, which thrives in the region's unique climate.
Production process
This wine is made from Tempranillo grapes grown in the sandy soils of San Juan del Monte, known for its concentrated flavor due to mature vines (over 60 years old). Aging for 18 months in a blend of American and French oak barrels promises a smooth taste with spicy undertones.
