Background
Bodegas Imperiales was established in 1998 by a group of passionate entrepreneurs and winemakers in Gumiel de Izán, Burgos, Spain, dedicated to the wines of the Ribera del Duero region. Since its inception, Bodegas Imperiales has been committed to crafting high-quality wines that capture the unique characteristics of the Ribera del Duero terroir and its grape varietals.
The winery owns 21 hectares of Tinta Fina (Tempranillo) vineyards and manages 80 more in Gumiel de Izán and La Aguilera. Some vines are over a century old, with some dating back to 1900.
Employing traditional winemaking methods alongside modern technology, Bodegas Imperiales ensures the excellence and uniformity of their wines. Their approach emphasizes minimal intervention, allowing the grapes and terroir to intricately shape the final product.
Production Process
Grapes for Bodegas Imperiales come from their own 21 hectares of vineyards in Gumiel de Izán and La Aguilera, Spain, within the Ribera del Duero region. They use 100% Tempranillo (Tinta Fina) grapes, some of which are over 100 years old. These aged vines bring concentrated flavors and complexity to the wine. The grapes are hand-harvested at peak ripeness to ensure the best quality and flavor. The juice ferments in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks for about 10 days, allowing for optimal extraction of color, flavor, and tannins from the grape skins. After fermentation, there's an additional 5-7 days of maceration on the skins, intensifying the wine's color, structure, and flavor profile. Next, the wine ages for 6 months in a mix of French and American oak barrels. The French oak gives subtle notes of spice, toast, and vanilla, while the American oak adds bolder aromas of vanilla, coconut, and caramel. The wine is then blended and slightly filtered.
Abadía de San Quirce 6 meses is a young wine meant to be enjoyed within a few years of its release; it doesn't need extra aging before consumption.
