Tasting Notes

Tinto Figuero pours a deep cherry red. On the nose, it's a complex dance of ripe berries – blackberry, raspberry, and black currant – with hints of warm spices like nutmeg and black pepper. Earthy notes of leather and minerals add intrigue. The taste is dense and well-structured, with everything in perfect harmony.

Background

More than just a winery, Tinto Figuero is a family story. Starting with a thousand wedding vines in 1961, José María and Milagros Figuero dedicated themselves to La Horra grapes for decades. Even during a rural exodus in the 70s, they stayed rooted in the land. Their passion culminated in a family-run winery after José María's retirement, specializing in Tempranillo, the heart of Ribera del Duero. By focusing on old vines, Tinto Figuero continues the region's rich winemaking legacy.

Production Process

Tinto Figuero's meticulous process starts with hand-picking grapes from ancient, 50+ year old vines near La Horra. They're gently brought to the winery, then chilled for two days before a warm fermentation with regular pump-overs. After a lengthy soak, the wine undergoes a secondary fermentation. Finally, it rests in new French oak barrels for over a year, before being clarified with egg whites and bottled for a final six-month rest.
