The finish is clean and lingers, hinting at the wine's potential for aging.

Background

The de la Mata family, part of an ancient noble lineage, began their winemaking history in the early 19th century when Felipe de la Mata, the 8th Marquis de Vargas, planted vineyards near Logroño. Don Hilario de la Mata, the 12th Marquis, dreamt of owning a winery but couldn't achieve it. In 1989, his son Pelayo de la Mata realized this dream by building a winery in Rioja Alta on the family farm. The winery focuses on producing high-class Finca wines that reflect the unique characteristics of their region.

Production Process

This wine spent 22 months maturing in French oak barrels. The barrels themselves had been used for up to 4 years prior.
