Tasting Notes
This wine offers aromas reminiscent of Grenache (Garnacha) from Gredos, with red berry fruit, hints of orange peel, and a touch of fragrant Mediterranean herbs. It's more concentrated and powerful than a typical "Tanuki Bob" style wine. On the palate, it is medium-bodied with smooth tannins and good balance, creating an elegant and enjoyable drinking experience.
Background
Residents with disabilities at the Amadip Esment Foundation chose the quirky name “Chickens and Seals” for this delightful wine because "chickens are funny and seals clap". Created alongside the 4 Kilos Vinícola winery, it is known for its sweetness, easy drinking, and burst of fruity flavors, poured with a big heart.
Born from a shared passion in 2006, the 4Kilos winery in Mallorca blends the expertise of a winemaker (Francesc Grimalt) and a music festival director (Sergio Caballero). Focusing on the essence of each grape, they craft wines using both local and international varieties. From humble beginnings using unconventional tools like milk refrigerators, they have become known for their innovative spirit and dedication to quality. With vineyards scattered across Mallorca, their name reflects their modest starting point, proving that great wine can come from big dreams and a whole lot of heart.
Production Process
The grapes are manually selected. Fermentation occurs in 400-litre foudres and 500-litre barrels at temperatures below 20ºC, with maceration lasting 20-25 days. Malolactic fermentation takes place in 500-litre barrels. The wine is aged for 18 months in French oak.
