Tasting Notes

The wine boasts a deep garnet color, tinged with violet hints. The aroma features hints of dark fruits such as plums, cherries, and blackcurrant jam, accompanied by delicate touches of toast and spices. Upon tasting, it reveals a rich burst of black fruit, the Cabernet's tannic grip perfectly balanced by the Syrah's juicy vibrancy. The oak adds a touch of vanilla and mocha in the background. Finish long and lingering.

Background

El Grillo y La Luna stands out in Somontano's wine scene. While others stick to schedules, this family winery waits for the grapes to reach their best, hand-picking each one carefully. They don't use machines or take shortcuts, just aiming for top quality. Their yearly production changes, not based on predetermined quantities but on what nature provides.

This devotion yields unique results. Among their wines, Súper Grillo stands out. This limited-edition Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah mix boasts an unconventional upbringing. The vines are gently tilled by two horses for optimal soil aeration. Inside French oak barrels, the grapes undergo a 14-day "integral fermentation," resulting in a smooth, but powerful and balanced wine.

Súper Grillo, like all El Grillo y La Luna wines, is crafted completely by hand, following natural processes. Respecting the vineyard and environment is their philosophy, evident in every sip.

Their dedication finds appreciation worldwide, with half their wines exported to countries like Mexico, Switzerland, and China.

Production Process

Súper Grillo's soul begins in a sun-drenched vineyard, tilled by two horses, Obélix and Elliot. This touch unlocks the land's potential, leading to richer grapes brimming with character. The Cabernet Sauvignon then experiences a unique and essential fermentation in a bottomless barrel for 14 days, hand-turned several times a day. The aging occurs in 100% French oak barrels for 16 months. The harvest yields just about 2000 bottles per year.

Pairing Suggestions

Grilled steaks, braised lamb, wild game – its bold fruit and spice play perfectly with rich meat, leaving you with a smoky, berry-kissed finish.
