Background

Bodegas Abadía San Quirce, also known as Bodegas Imperiales, was founded in 1998 by the Antolin family and Ribera del Duero winegrowers, prioritizing excellence. The winery gained recognition through national and international accolades, becoming a reference in Ribera del Duero. The location in the Gumiel de Izan area was chosen for its grape-growing potential and tradition in the world of wine, ensuring the perfect development of the vineyards and wines.

The winery owns 21 hectares and controls over 80 more. The special climate and soil help them grow high-quality grapes, mainly Tinta Fina with an average age of 40-50 years (some even older!). The iconic Finca Helena comes from vines planted in 1900, bringing back 19th-century winemaking traditions. Careful attention to detail at every step shines through in the final product.

Production Process

Ribera del Duero's special conditions, hand-picked grapes, careful selection, controlled fermentation, and aging in French oak barrels all contribute to the unique character of their wines. They also have a system to ensure everything is authentic and traceable.

French oak vats facilitate both alcoholic and malolactic fermentation. The wine undergoes a 15-month aging process in high-grade barrels, followed by additional time in the bottle to achieve its full expression. Ideal for extended preservation, allowing it to mature gracefully over several years.

Pairing Suggestions

Ideal companions for this wine include game birds, hearty beef stews, as well as osso buco and oxtail dishes. The robust flavors of the wine complement the richness of these savory delights, creating a harmonious dining experience.
