Background
Bodegas Portia is a relatively young winery, conceived by the famous businessman Julio Faustino Martínez as a tribute to and gratitude towards the wine sector.
Julio Faustino Martínez, the alma mater of the Faustino brand, which encompasses several wineries, chose Norman Foster as the executor of his project, a key figure in British modernist architecture.
The winery is located in the Ribera del Duero region and represents a brilliant futuristic high-tech building, symbolizing the innovation of this brand. Today, it is one of the leading destinations in wine tourism in the region.
Diligence, stability, and innovation enable the company to carry out an innovative winemaking and aging process, bringing the future of winemaking closer every day. They manage to obtain the best from excellent vineyards owned by the family and embody excellence in wine.
Five types of wines produced at this winery belong to the internal brand Martinez Zabala Gallery. These are the most unique limited drinks, produced from their own Portia vineyards, from unique varieties growing in particularly favorable locations. Triennia de Portia also belongs to the limited edition.
Production process
The wine is made from 100% Tempranillo grapes harvested from selected vines averaging at least 85 years old. The vineyards grow on sandy-limestone soil at an altitude of approximately 900 meters above sea level. The grapes are harvested by hand in 15-kilogram crates, then fermented in small steel tanks. Aging takes place in new French oak barrels for 12 months and in bottles for 30 months.
This wine is produced in limited batches and belongs to the category of "Vino de autor," the aim of which is to express the winery's individual style and reflect the unique characteristics of the terroir.
Pairing Suggestions
It pairs well with hard cheeses such as Gran Padano, Parmesan, grilled meat, and other rich meat dishes.
