Tasting Notes

A wine of cherry color with a clean, balanced aroma, featuring notes of ripe black and red fruits. In the mouth, it unfolds brightly, intensely, and elegantly at the same time. An energetic wine with great aging potential.

Background

The de la Mata family branch belongs to the ancient and noble lineage of marquises. As early as the first half of the 19th century, Felipe de la Mata, the 8th Marquis de Vargas, planted vineyards near Logroño, thus laying the foundation for the future family winemaking. Don Hilario de la Mata, the 12th Marquis de Vargas, passionately involved in the world of wine, dreamed of the family owning a winery but couldn't bring it to fruition. In 1989, his son, Pelayo de la Mata, built a winery in the heart of the Rioja Alta region, on the territory of the family farm, thereby fulfilling his father's dream. The winery adheres to the principle of producing only high-class Finca wines, which express the special character and typical characteristics of the DO, reflecting the unique features of each region they come from.

Production process

This wine is a blend of Tempranillo, Garnacha, and Mazuelo varieties. Grapes are carefully handpicked and then sorted on a special table. Fermentation involves a combination of several types of tanks and stages. Aging takes place in oak barrels of different sizes for 20-23 months.
