Tasting Notes

Cloaked in a deep cherry robe, this wine unveils a captivating bouquet of ripe red and black fruits. Hints of toasted spice and whispers of minerality dance on the nose, adding intrigue. The palate is a tapestry of power and richness, where notes of blueberry and raspberry intertwine, supported by velvety tannins and a touch of cream.

Background

High in the hills of Calatayud, Bodegas Ateca crafts wines that reflect the soul of the land. Owned by the Gil family, this winery uses indigenous Garnacha grapes grown on ancient vines at dizzying heights.  The harsh climate, with its hot days and cold nights, stresses the grapes, resulting in intensely flavored wines. Their flagship bottles - Armas, Atteca, and Honoro Vera - boast depth, balanced acidity, and a minerality that speaks to the unique slate soils. These wines age beautifully, a testament to the quality of the grapes and winemaking.

Production Process

Crafted from rare, century-old Grenache grapes, this small-batch wine (only 3,600 bottles) boasts bold flavors from its extreme-temperature vineyard. Handpicked grapes and French oak 18-months aging create a powerful, fruit-forward wine.
